School Counselor: Kim Hoff works with students whose last names fall in the A-F range of the alphabet. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in English and Secondary Education from St. Cloud State University in 1995. She went on to teach English at Hudson High School until the year 2000. She was also head coach of the Hudson Dance Team from 1996-2011. In 2011, she earned a Master of Science in School Counseling from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. She worked one year at Hastings Middle School and joined the Hastings High School Counseling staff in the fall of 2012. She is the counseling office department chairperson. She advises both the Peer Tutor and Peer Helper programs and is the facilitator for several support groups. Kim also mentors and supervises all School Counseling interns and practicum students.

School Counselor: Naomi Marietta covers the G-L portion of the alphabet. She earned her Bachelor of Science in English and Speech Communications from Mankato State University. After graduation she accepted a position at Henry Sibley High School where she taught English for 5 years. She has a Master of Education in English from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Science in Counseling from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. Naomi oversees the high school registration process, office communications/website maintenance, credit evaluations, AP testing, National Merit Scholarship applications and the honors program. Naomi came to the Hastings School District in 2001. During her tenure at HHS, she was the department chair person for 15 years, Link Crew Coordinator, NHS Advisor, and middle school tennis coach.

School Counselor: Drew Cooper oversees students whose last names begin with M-R and all students in AVID. Drew earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in 2006 and earned his Masters degree from Concordia University of Chicago in School Counseling in 2013. He was a teacher and counselor at McHenry East High School from 2006-2016. Drew has coached varsity football and sponsored a variety of activities. Drew is our NCAA representative, Infinite Campus liaison, ACT coordinator, and runs several support groups. He is also our technology expert!

School Counselor: Steve Peterson guides students whose last names begin with S-Z, EL, and Foreign Exchange Students. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin River Falls in 1996 with a degree in English and Journalism Education, and taught both at Prescott High School for 11 years. He earned his Master's Degree in Counseling at UWRF in 2005, and worked at a high school counselor at Prescott. Steve has coached cross country and track for 15 years, he is our Youth Ambassadors coordinator, and spearheads our school career initiatives. Steve enjoys being a part of the counseling team at Hastings High School.

School Psychologist: Melissa Schill went to Gustavus Adolphus College for her undergraduate degree in Psychology and then earned a Ph.D. in School Psychology from University of Wisconsin, Madison. Her roles include: 504 case management, helping students transition to and from treatment, individual social/emotional/behavior support. Melissa facilitates several support groups and organizes the Signs of Suicide mental health screening. She partners with counselors and regular education teachers to create pre-referral interventions for special education referrals and is a key member of both our risk and threat assessment teams. In addition to co-facilitating the Peer Helper Program with Kim Hoff, Melissa also supervises all School Psychology interns and practicum students.

School Psychologist: Cassie Ryan is a school psychologist at HHS. Her roles include: conducting testing and assessment for students who may need special education services; consulting with parents, staff and students about children’s mental health and/or educational concerns; and providing support for students with depression and other mental health needs.

Registrar: Kristin Poellinger manages all new student enrollment including records requests, managing required legal documents, and scheduling of intake meetings. She is in charge of grade reporting, transcript maintenance, and honor roll publications. Kristin is a key player in our registration process as she works to enroll ALL students, inputs course requests, and creates master rosters for administrators and teachers. She is the one who welcomes everyone into the counseling office, assists students and parents, supports teachers, and keeps the counselors in line! Without a doubt, Kristin is the engine of our office.

Career Center Specialist: Jody Geib is our college and career expert. She can assist with all of the aspects of college and career planning. Jody spends most of her time helping students with career exploration and the college application process. She has close relationships with college representatives all over the country and arranges representative and recruiter visits. Jody also distributes scholarship information to seniors and is in charge of our Local Scholarship Program and Awards Night.

Community in the Schools: Kel O'Leary is new to our office as of March 2020 and we aren't quite sure how we functioned with out her! Kel's position is funded through a partnership with the United Way and HHS. She case manages 9th and 10th grade students who struggle academically. She provides individual needs assessments for students, coordinates community resources, and works to promote family engagement. She is our link to the world outside of HHS and we are lucky to have her on our team.
